JTEKT reimagines industrial training for a global workforce

JTEKT, a Japanese automotive supplier founded in 2006, is a major player in the manufacturing and distribution of essential automotive components such as steering systems, transmission components, bearings, and machine tools. With a strong presence across 32 sites in Europe and North Africa, and a workforce of more than 47,200 employees, JTEKT faces significant challenges in training and digitalization.
In this context, Caroline Zipperlin, HR Development Manager, and Eric Darblade, Quality Development Manager, together with their teams, launched an innovative initiative to modernize and streamline the large-scale delivery of industrial training across the company. Discover how JTEKT amplifies the impact of its training at an international scale through new approaches to skills development.
Transforming industrial training to scale skills globally
Digitalizing training to boost efficiency and reach
In a fast-moving sector like automotive, professional training can be particularly complex due to the specialized skills required. That’s why JTEKT undertook a modernization of its e-learning programs to strengthen employee skill development.
The goal was to move from a linear, traditional approach to an interactive and innovative learning experience—making it easier to distribute training modules across Europe.
“We wanted to replace our Bristol briefing cards with digital mini-modules, integrated into a training path for managers to make onboarding easier.”

Scaling up e-learning for industrial excellence
This digitalization project aims to facilitate knowledge sharing across six European bearing plants through two training paths:
- A path for managers to brief line teams
- A problem-solving path to support transformation
Launched in September 2020, the project quickly gained momentum. By 2022, it had produced 113 modules within JTEKT’s studio, thanks to the commitment of 10 active authors. Among them, Caroline Zipperlin and Eric Darblade stand out as key contributors, with 290 daily learners using the modules.
Why did JTEKT choose Teach Up as its Learning Experience Platform (LXP)?
A future-ready approach to industrial learning
One of JTEKT’s priorities was to digitalize training to make information sharing easier for employees across Europe. The decision to adopt a Learning Experience Platform was based on several key factors.
Creating engaging and modern learning journeys
Teach Up provides an innovative learning approach tailored to JTEKT’s evolving needs in skills development. With advanced features such as real-time personalization of training content, AI-powered adaptive learning journeys, and collaboration tools, Teach Up enables JTEKT to design interactive, engaging learning experiences for all employees.
Scaling learning delivery to thousands of employees
JTEKT’s long-standing collaboration with Very Up, Teach Up’s sister company, also helped the company discover the power of this innovative authoring tool.
“The innovative approach and the ability to introduce new learning methods convinced us. The product met all our expectations with the features we needed. When the time came to choose a tool to develop our own digital modules, Teach Up was the obvious choice.”
Caroline Zipperlin, HR Development Manager, JTEKT
By choosing Teach Up, JTEKT can now quickly share content with employees across multiple countries, ensuring optimal access to training.
Collaborative training design that brings teams together
Another key advantage of Teach Up is its ability to involve team members in the digital module development process, particularly during the final validation phase.
“What I find very useful is being able to involve other team members once a module is complete. This collaborative validation step provides quick feedback and helps us progress.”
Eric Darblade, Training Manager, JTEKT
Driving learner engagement with adaptive design
For trainers, the tool was easy to adopt thanks to tailored support from Teach Up’s Customer Success team. This guidance helped designers understand how to create compelling learning stories within modules to maximize learner engagement.
“As a designer, it’s easy to put yourself in the trainer’s shoes and ensure the tool asks the right questions throughout the learning path.”
Eric Darblade, Training Manager, JTEKT
On the design side, the wide range of features allows the creation of rich, varied learning experiences. The goal is to address as many learning preferences as possible by diversifying formats—videos, quizzes, images, fill-in-the-blank exercises, and more.
For learners, Adaptive Learning technology enables real-time, personalized progress at their own pace while ensuring consistent mastery levels across the workforce.
“Learners particularly appreciate the tool’s modern design, playfulness, and usability. Feedback has been very positive.”
Caroline Zipperlin, HR Development Manager, JTEKT
What’s next for JTEKT’s learning transformation?
The JTEKT team continues to launch new training initiatives, from onboarding to product knowledge.
“I’m currently developing a digital onboarding program. The goal is to provide new hires with a set of e-learning modules to complete within their first weeks. In the medium term, I also plan to develop a product training program.”
Caroline Zipperlin, HR Development Manager, JTEKT
“As for me, I continue to enrich the quality training path on problem-solving, in particular by adding the first steps to apply in practice.”
Eric Darblade, Training Manager, JTEKT
